Christian speaker and author of FROM SORROW TO JOY, which addresses the pain, problems, and dynamics of widowhood, and IT’S NOT PUNISHMENT IT’S PREPARATION, which examines God’s plans and purposes for the crises Christians encounter and overcome. Augusta also provides valuable resources for support groups, individual study, book clubs, clergy, counselors, and lay people.
What first inspired you to get into your line of work? And what motivates you to do the work you do still today?
In 1995 I penned my first book, GOD’S LADY, The Complete Woman, to address the issues women and girls face relative to self-esteem and womanhood. I realized many women did not know how valuable they were to God and therefore did not value themselves or other women. That book ignited my speaking ministry which has taken me all over the country.
Since that time, I have written six more books, including IT’S NOT PUNISHMENT, IT’S PREPARATION, and FROM SORROW TO JOY. I chose to use my struggles and crises as “launching pads'” rather than pillows, which have empowered me to write and minister with sincerity and compassion. My books have been read by residents of prisons, clergy of various faiths, Believers, and seekers in the US and beyond. Even though some of my books are written “to” women they are not written exclusively “for” women.
I am forever grateful for the impact Jesus allows me to make upon the lives of hurting people.
How did you come to faith in Christ?
The people who were most instrumental in my salvation were my parents. My attraction to Jesus was initiated by the consistent joy and contentment I observed in them. I saw them endure trials and enjoy victories. Although there was always activity in our home, it was peaceful and secure.
How does your faith impact the way you do business?
Everything I write is Christ-centered and biblically sound. People need salvation and the practical principles of the Word to experience abundant life on earth and eternal life after death.
What ministry/cause do you champion and why?
Over the past 25 years, a major focus of my ministry has been to widowed men and women, and families in crisis. This was the result of the death of my husband, which not only made me a 44-year-old widow but also a single Mother.
When my husband died my children and I were broken beyond comprehension. We were surrounded by loving family and friends, but no one in my circle had endured this type of loss. Also, there were several unexpected challenges, that surfaced as a result of his death.
Jesus empowered me to heal, restructure my life, and get my family back on track. Subsequently, I have been honored and humbled to help others who have experienced similar traumas.
