What first inspired you to get into your line of work? And what motivates you to do the work you do still today?
I felt a sense of pride in providing a service that can help prevent possible life loss or loss of property! We try to put ourselves in the shoes of our customers. We often receive calls in the middle of the night from concerned owners or maintenance directors. It is pleasing when we can lessen their stress levels and work on a plan to resolve their problems.
How did you come to faith in Christ?
When I was around 12 years old my mother and stepfather had separated after years of an unhealthy relationship. She moved me and my two sisters into my grandmother’s small home. My Mamaw (as we liked to call her) gave her bedroom and queen size bed up for us. She took to the old couch in the living room down the hall for her sleep. Mamaw was only in her fifties but she fell ill most of my life. She was a frail woman, but one thing she had strength in, was her faith in God. Night after night while we should have been sleeping, I heard her down the hall in the living room, praying for each one of us by name! she prayed the prayers that moved my heart. I knew if this frail woman, who was a hundred pounds soaking wet, believed these prayers she was lifting to God, He was going to answer them. I wanted to be a part of his plan for the rest of my life.
How does your faith impact the way you do business?
This business provides for my family and I am great full! But, when we are asked to help solve issues in our wheelhouse, we do it in a caring way, that I hope reflects the face of Christ. When our customers thank me or try to tell me that I have gone above and beyond, I let them know that I look at the situation and put myself in their shoes. What would I want if I was the one in need? It’s really simple, it’s compassion for human beings! I have not looked into another’s eyes, without seeping someone that Jesus loves.
What ministry/cause do you champion and why?
Right now my wife and I are walking through the Rooted Experience, here’s a look at it.
7 Rhythms you’ll experience throughout Rooted were first modeled by the early Church in Acts 2. By committing to practicing these rhythms in community, you will begin to see the type of growth and life change that goes beyond the individual to impact the whole church. In a world marked by constant change where we are surrounded by chaos and confusion, our attention pulled in every which way, God’s Word clearly lays the foundation for transformational Christian living. With our eyes set on Him (Hebrews 12:2) and our roots in the Truth of God’s Word (Colossians 3:16), we can be sure God will produce the kind of life-change that will echo through His Kingdom for generations to come. Likely you’re here, reading these pages and joining in the Rooted experience because you are looking for something. Whether you’re looking for connection, community, to deepen your relationship with Jesus, or have some serious questions you want to explore, beginning a practice of the 7 Rhythms is where you will do all of that. Maybe you’ve lost sight of who God is and what He’s done for you and feel like everything is out of control. Or maybe you’ve experienced a significant life change recently where the rug was pulled out from beneath you and you need some sort of foundation to put your hope in. Well, this is it. This is where you step into the community and commit to rhythms God established for us in His Word so that we would know Him more intimately, and through that journey, invite others to hear His story and experience the true freedom Jesus offers by knowing Him. Throughout the next 10 weeks, you are invited to practice the 7 Rhythms of Rooted grounded in Acts 2 which include: Daily Devotion, Prayer, Repentance, Serve the Community, Sacrificial Generosity, Share Your Story, and Worship. When you build the foundation of your life on solid rock (Matthew 7:24-27), that is, God’s Word and His instruction for how to live it out, you will not be disappointed by the love you experience nor the ways He begins to use you. These rhythms are not intended just for Rooted, and are surely not supposed to last only the duration of the next 10 weeks. The more dedicated you are to spending time and reflecting on God’s Word, the more you actively engage in group discussions and the experiences throughout Rooted the more likely you are to not only walk away from Rooted having learned something but the more likely you are to take the seven rhythms of Rooted with you into your next chapter of life and beyond. The journey won’t be perfect-no journey ever is. But the more you seek God, The more you will find Him (Deuteronomy 4:29). Let this step in faith become the foundation of your walk with Jesus.
